Are you un-resourceful or is it your Un-resourceful State of mind?

One of the most empowering premises in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the belief that “there are no unresourceful people, only unresourceful states.” This deceptively simple idea packs a profound truth about the boundless reservoirs of capability that exist within each of us.

On the surface, we all have moments where we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply lacking the resources to overcome a particular challenge. Maybe we’re struggling with a difficult task, facing an intimidating fear, or caught in a cycle of unproductive habits. In those unresourceful states, it can feel like we’ve hit an impenetrable barrier to growth and progress.

However, the NLP presupposition posits that those feelings of being unresourceful are merely temporary states, not an immutable condition of who we are at our core. Within each individual lies an infinite well of creativity, wisdom, determination and skill waiting to be tapped into.

Think about it this way: We all have overcome tremendous transformations and hurdles to arrive at our current station in life. Every person has faced unimaginable challenges as an infant who could barely see, hear or move independently. Yet we all managed to learn to walk, talk, read, write and navigate the world’s complexities. We are wired for constant learning and growth.

At various points, we’ve all experienced being in remarkably resourceful states where we tapped into talents, insights and abilities that seemed impossible before that moment. An unexpected crisis that revealed new levels of courage and resilience. A passion project that unlocked deposits of creative genius. A goal that drove us to master new skills.

The key is recognizing that within yourself exists the intrinsic capacity to resourcefully adapt and evolve. Feelings of helplessness or limitation are not a permanent identity, but simply unresourceful states to move beyond. Just as we’ve reinvented ourselves countless times throughout life already, the path remains open to transform into our greatest, highest selves.

With this empowering NLP mindset, you stop disqualifying yourself from growth. You interrupt the habit of labelling yourself as unresourceful. Instead, you embrace the self-perception that you always contain the resources to evolve, whether they are currently activated or not.

There are no unresourceful people. Only unresourceful states that camouflage our true essential brilliance. Release yourself from those limiting temporary trances, and let your boundless capacities shine.
